ChatGPT uses Bing
When someone asks ChatGPT for a local business, it leans heavily on Bing's search results and business listings. If you're not on Bing, you're easy to skip.

CLIENT GUIDE
More of your customers are skipping Google and asking ChatGPT "Who's the best roofer near me?" One of the main places ChatGPT pulls local business info from is Bing. This 15-minute setup puts your business in the running.
Takes about 15 minutes. Free. No tech skills needed.
When someone asks ChatGPT for a local business, it leans heavily on Bing's search results and business listings. If you're not on Bing, you're easy to skip.
Almost every business has a Google profile. Very few have taken 15 minutes to set up Bing. That's your opening.
There's no way to pay for placement in ChatGPT. A complete, accurate listing is one of the best things you can control.
Checklist
Have these ready:
The Setup
Head to bingplaces.com (opens in a new tab) and click "Get Started" or "Sign In." You can sign in with a Microsoft account. If you don't have one, it'll walk you through making a free one.
Pro tip: Use the same email address that manages your Google Business Profile. It makes Step 2 a lot smoother.
If you already have a Google Business Profile, pick "Import from Google Business Profile."
That's it. Your name, address, phone, hours, and photos will come over automatically.
Pro tip: If the import fails, it's almost always because you're signed into the wrong Google account. Sign out and try again with the one that owns the profile.
This step is what makes your listing count. Unverified listings may not show up at all.
Pro tip: Set a reminder on your phone to look for the postcard. This is the step most people forget to finish.
ChatGPT and Bing reward complete listings. Go through every tab and fill in:
Pro tip: The more specific you are, the better. "Paver patios and retaining walls" tells ChatGPT more than "hardscaping."
Your description should spell out what you do, who you do it for, and where. ChatGPT reads this to figure out whether to recommend you.

Your business name, address, and phone number need to be identical everywhere: Bing, Google, Facebook, your website, Yelp, and anywhere else you're listed. "Smith Roofing LLC" on one site and "Smith Roofing & Exteriors" on another makes AI tools less sure you're the same business.
Pro tip: Pull up your Google profile and your website side by side with Bing and check them line by line.
Give it 1–2 weeks after you're verified, then open ChatGPT and ask it the way a customer would:
Write down what comes up. Results change over time, so check again in a month.
Not showing up yet? That's normal at first. Keep going with the bonus steps below.
Bonus
ChatGPT looks at reviews on Google, Yelp, BBB, and Facebook. Ask every happy customer.
Give each main service and the cities you serve their own section or page.
Chamber of Commerce listings, local news, and "best of" lists all help.
Especially for holidays and seasonal changes.
